What is the VAT OSS Scheme and when did it become effective?

The VAT OSS Scheme, effective from the 1st of July, 2021, is a system for the distance sale of goods or B2C services within the EU. It allows companies to register for VAT in one EU Member State, typically their own, and manage all VAT-related issues in that country.
